Most houses and commercial buildings from before 1990 hold asbestos somewhere: floor tile and the mastic under it, pipe wrap, duct tape, plaster, vermiculite, fireproofing. Ontario requires a designated-substances survey before demolition on those buildings. Breaker coordinates the survey, removes what it finds under O. Reg. 278/05, and then carries straight on with the strip-out or the tear-down. One contractor, one schedule.

The number comes from the survey report and a site walk. Abatement is its own line on the quote, ahead of the demolition.

- Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act requires a designated-substances survey before demolition on any building where those substances may be present. Pre-1990 is the usual trigger.
