Old decks come apart faster than they went together, and the posts are the part people forget. We dismantle the deck or fence, pull the posts and their concrete rather than cutting them off at grade, and haul it all the same day. Pressure-treated wood is sorted separately because it cannot be chipped with clean wood.

- Removing a deck or fence needs no permit in most municipalities. Building the replacement deck usually does.
- A deck attached to the house is cut free at the ledger without damaging the house wall; the ledger flashing is left for the next deck or made weather-tight.
